General Description

The Prince De Neufchatel is a fast and well-armed 20-gun schooner, unique for carrying both bow and stern chasers considering her speed. She is the only ship in the game to split her gun deck's armament, her four aftermost gunports can only support carronades. The vessel has an excellent turnrate giving her the possibility to be a lethal weapon against ships of the line who cannot outturn her, making them vulnerable to sternrakes.

The Prince de Neufchatel is unique for a ship it's class in the area that it has a considerable speed at all wind angles due to its rigging. It'a best point of sail is ~90 degrees from the wind. It has an excellent turnrate. Through the use of manual sails this ship has an extraordinary acceleration and deceleration. It is able to sail stop and even sail backwards at all wind angles if manual sailing is used properly in a matter of seconds. This characteristic is especially useful for boarding where the Prince can act almost like a rock infront of another vessel.

The Prince de Neufchatel has a very weak bowsprit. Ramming into an enemy vessel can cause a potential rigging shock. Thus during a boarding an experienced enemy can perform a seemlessly harmless turn but break off the Prince's bowsprit, crippling it considerably.

The Prince de Neufchatel was a fast sailing United States schooner-rigged privateer, built in New York by Adam and Noah Brown in approximately 1812. She is a fine example of the peak of development of the armed schooner. Neufchatel operated in mainly European waters, damaging British shipping during the War of 1812. Noted for her speed, at one time she outran seventeen men-of-war. In 1813, operating in the English channel, she took nine British prizes in quick succession. She also delivered a crushing defeat to the boats of a British frigate that tried to capture her. The British finally captured her in December 1814; she was broken up in 1815.
