Some ports produce bountiful resources while others produce none

How Production Buildings Work

Buildings are an integral part of the Naval Action economy.
Only selected goods may be produced in each port.

AI Production Buildings

AI production buildings do not produce any goods automatically.

  • They will however, immediately produce goods to fill BUY contracts that exactly meet a Target Price but only in ports that CAN produce this good.
  • The target price is currently set to EXACTLY 4 times the production cost for a player-built production building of the same type.
  • The production cost can found by opening the resource on the craft menu and dividing the amount shown by the number of resources produced.

Player Production Buildings

Player built Buildings produce resources throughout the (real-world) day at a certain constant rate. Produced resources accumulate in the building's storage until one collects them. The rate of resource production and storage size depend on the Production Building Level with storage capacity equal to three day's production.

Collecting Resources

  • Collecting resources from a Production Building, will cost you both Labour Hours and gold.
  • As building size is increased, the efficiency of the building increases with larger buildings requiring fewer labor hours per unit.
  • Production costs in gold per unit collected does NOT change.

Collecting resources is done via the Crafting tab, sub-tab "Resources".

  • In addition to collecting what the building produces, small quantities of related materiel is generally obtained at the same time, e.g. small amounts of Silver may be found while collecting Coal, Small Amounts of Compass Wood may be collected while collecting Oak, and small quantities of Rum may be collected while harvesting Sugar.

Making Money

As the game economy has not yet fully stabilized into a player-based economy, profits for ALL commodities cannot yet be reliably made by just selling the resources from production buildings.

  • One should weigh the profits of selling resources directly into the shops versus placing a SELL contract.
  • One should also consider crafting some of the resources harvested into other goods before selling.
    • For example Oak Planks often have a higher profit margin than Oak logs and require no additional inputs other than the labor hours to craft them.
    • Gold Coins sell for considerably more than Gold Ore. If one has coal available, Crafting Gold into Gold Ingots then into Gold Coins can yield considerably more profits.

PvE and PvP considerations

As the different economies shake out differently on different server environments one must evaluate which buildings will be profitable in which ports under each server's conditions.

  • For example the PvP EU server, the price for resources might be exceptionally high. This makes it profitable for a player to buy production buildings to harvest materials to craft with and because of the high prices currently in the most populated server, relatively large amounts of money can be made from selling raw resources.

An even more profitable way of making money using your production buildings, is by producing certain raw materials, which you then make crafting materials from, such as crafting notes or making ingots from ore. These items can be sold for large amounts of money, as the high-level and often clan-based crafters, who are commonly rich as well, will not hesitate to spend extra amount of money to save labour hours. This opens doors for the newer players, who can make large amount of start-up money, simply by investing in production buildings.
