 General Description

The Niagara is 6th rate brig, however interestingly, though it is a shallow draught ship, it is not allowed in shallow port battles. The Niagara is based off the USS Niagara, a US navy brig present in the Battle of lake Erie during the war of 1812. Part way through the battle it also served as Oliver Hazard Perry's flagship, after his ship took heavy damage and lost most of its crew. The ship was sunk after the war, but has been refloated and reconstructed and still sails on Lake Erie, it is currently under possession of the State of Pennsylvania.

Armament

The Niagara can mount either 32pd carronades or 9pd cannons for both her stern chasers and main battery making her the most heavily armed of all the brigs.

Weather Deck 20 9pd 32pd
Stern Chasers 2 9pd 32pd

Characteristics

The Niagara being so long and thin has great speed at all points of sail (for a square rigger that is), she has good structure being the same as the Navy Brig and Mercury, she does however turn slower but this should not be a problem thanks to her excellent speed and massive fire power for a brig almost matching the light Frigate the Cerberus.

SailingProfileNIAGARA.png

Here is the Sailing Profile for the Niagara; she sails much like the other brigs - doing well at any point from a beam reach and beyond but sailing at her fastest at point 135. Like the Mercury, the Niagara is relatively forgiving when pushed further upwind than a beam reach to around point 75, but after that will suffer a rapid speed decrease. Overall, she is one of the stronger sailors of the brigs in the game, but does not compare favourably to your other options at the same rank; the Cerberus light frigate.

How to get Crafting recipe

You can get the Niagara by breaking up Niagaras or you can get it by crafting Mercuries.
